"Initial training in theological education equips us with the skills to communicate clearly and effectively God's word in Scripture. Postgraduate study is a strategic step forward for sharpening our skills and for growth in maturity as teachers of God's word in Scripture."

LW Class

The Postgraduate program is an opportunity to join other leaders from Adelaide and beyond in gaining advanced skills in preaching and teaching with a focus on integration into your mission and ministry context. Through fellowship, worship, and scholarship, we explore how what we learn from God’s word transforms our lives and ministry-mission contexts so that we can continue to be equipped to serve effectively in the 21st century.

The Postgraduate program at Bible College SA offers two options for advanced ministry training. The first option is learning by coursework and the second is learning by research.

Option 1: Learning By Coursework

The purpose of the coursework option is to offer an in-service vocational development program for gospel workers. The program has both audit and credit options. When taken for credit, the program has a nested structure, which allows students to gradually progress through an award. There are three exit points and each level is cumulative:

Exit with 2 subjects for a Graduate Certificate of Ministry or Theology

Exit with 4 subjects for a Graduate Diploma of Ministry or Theology

Exit with 8 subjects for a Master of Arts (Ministry or Theology)

The entry requirement into the in-service development program by coursework is an ACT Bachelor of Ministry or Theology, or a Master of Divinity. Please note that the only requirement is the completion of the above awards; there are no GPA requirements. However, for international students, English Language Proficiency also needs to be demonstrated with  IELTS requirements of a 7.0 minimum in reading and writing, as well as a 6.5 in listening and speaking.

Option 2: Learning By Research

The research program is designed to provide further training in research for those who are preparing to teach in theological education both in Australia and in cross-cultural contexts. The program involves undertaking research in an area of specialisation, participating in a peer-review process, establishing a publication strategy, and contributing to in-house research seminars and external conferences. Currently, the research award of Bible College SA is the Master of Theology.

There are three different pathways towards the Master of Theology:

Potential students can apply to study for two years full-time or six years part-time.

A suitable research supervisor will be sought as part of the application process. The appointment of the supervisor is the responsibility of the Director of Postgraduate Studies. However, the supervisory relationship is critical for the success of a research program and therefore we place a high priority on matching a supervisor to the student who will help the student achieve their research goals.

Admission requirements into the MTh program are as follows:

  • A three-year Bachelor degree or Master of Divinity with a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 (Credit) and where the 8cp project has been awarded a credit grade (minimum).
  • A four-year Bachelor Honours program achieving IIB with a minimum grade of 65% in a 16cp project.
  • A three-year Bachelor degree together with a completed MA with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and where the 8cp project has been awarded a credit grade (minimum).
  • A Master of Arts (Christian Studies) combined with a Graduate Diploma of Divinity with a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 and where the 8cp project has been awarded a credit grade (minimum).
