With Dr Robert W Yarbrough

Yarbrough Rob web

When we approach the Letters of John, we can sometimes do so without being aware of some of their complexities and undergirding themes. One often overlooked link between all three letters is the author’s delight in shared joy (eg. 1 Jn 1:4; 2 Jn 12; 3 Jn 4). In this unit, students will explore the Triune source of this joy, the doctrines that make such joy possible, the practices that express this joy, and the inner life from which this joy springs. In all of this, they will also grow in their capacity to interpret and communicate the priceless, divinely-given testimony of this part of the Scriptures.

Robert Yarbrough is currently the New Testament Professor at Covenant Theological Seminary in Missouri, USA, and has formerly taught at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and Wheaton College. He has made many significant contributions to evangelical scholarship including a volume on the Johannine Letters in the Baker NT Exegetical Commentary series, and his forthcoming work on the Pastoral Epistles in the Pillar commentary series.

Yarbrough has been married to Bernie, a nurse, since 1973, and they have two adult sons. He has coached baseball and was formerly a lumberjack by trade. He is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church in America.
